Bayernwald (Bayern Wood)

This unique German site is located between the villages of Wijtschate and Voormezele. The site consists of two mine galleries, a mine shaft, a trench system and five bunkers. It is accessed via a footpath which passes through the restored network of trenches. A series of information panels give details of the events which took place here and explain what life at the front was really like.

Maintenance works at Bayernwald

Thanks to subsidies from the Flemish Heritage Agency and a contribution from the Municipality of Heuvelland, maintenance and conservation works are being carried out at the unique Bayernwald trench site. The works started on 16 September to preserve this valuable heritage for future generations. The site remains open to visitors, although a limited section is temporarily closed due to renovation works. All four bunkers remain accessible.

Summer = 01/04 - 14/11:
Open every day from 0900 until 1700
Scan your ticket before 1700 at the entrance gate.

Winter = 15/11 - 31/03
Open every day from 0900 until 1600
Scan your ticket before 1600 at the entrance gate.
