The landscape of Heuvelland exudes a peace and tranquillity that is reminiscent of yesteryear. Here in the borderlands, far from the hustle and bustle of the interior, time almost seems to stand still. But appearances can be deceptive. Much has changed since the second half of the 20th century. And the pace of change is increasing all the time. In the exhibition 'Landscape in transformation', old postcards, photographs and films from the 1950s are displayed alongside the images of the same landscape today. We how explore how land use, agriculture, residential use, mobility, tourism, nature and the desire to preserve our natural beauty have shaped the countryside and villages of Heuvelland. With these fascinating stories, we will take you to the very heart of the landscape, not only to look at the past and the present, but also to examine the possible choices for the future. Testimonies from residents and visitors help to bring the visual material to life.
Free to visit on the 2nd floor of the Visitors' Centre 'Het Heuvelland'.
