Heuvelland stretches out across the hills on both sides of the Franco-Belgian border. The route of Ghent-Wevelgem in Flanders Fields follows the most important sections of the classic Ghent-Wevelgem cycle race. You bike from Kemmel to Westouter, Boeschepe, Godewaersvelde, Berthen, Bailleul, Loker, Dranouter and end with a double ascent of the Kemmelberg. The programme takes in eleven challenging hills, including the Catsberg, Zwarteberg, Monteberg, and Scherpenberg. Once you reach the top, you can enjoy the magnificent panoramic views, with their patchwork of
woods and fields, criss-crossed by delightful sunken roads.
The real cycling fanatics can challenge each other on the Strava-segments. The route is signposted but can also be downloaded digitally. The total distance is 100 of 128 km with a total difference in altitude of 1,000 metres. In other words, some serious climbing!
